IWB Shirt Tuckable 1911 Extra Magazine Holster in Kydex

February 21, 2007
IWB Holster handgun 1911 KYDEX® sheet DIYOk, So here it is, a reverse IWB Shirt Tuckable 1911 extra mag holster.

This project was done in a hurry, and I think perhaps (and this is no admission) there may have been a couple too many adult beverages enjoyed before hand. After all it was a personal project, and it was the weekend!

During Molding I set the mag up backwards for the forming process. The way that I formed the KYDEX® sheet is exactly the same as my Outside the Waistband 1911 mag holster1911 KYDEX® sheet mag holster and in fact I layed it down in the press exactly the same way, forgetting that this would be IWB and would require the exact opposite.

Anyway, while the top piece for the may was cooling in the press, I went ahead and worked on the belt mounting system. I wanted this to be all one piece so I started with a long 1.25 inches wide, with a paddle on the end that was 3inches wide. The paddle section would mount to the molded KYDEX® sheet and hold the magazine, and the long strip was formed into the belt J hook. This was done with a heat gun, marking my bend points, and folding the KYDEX® sheet along a 1/8th thick piece of metal to keep everything strait.

There were 3 folds required, one to allow for shirt tuckability, the next to go over the pants, and then a third to hook under the belt.

Seen to the left is a shot of the mag holster without my shirt, showing one of the Haramaki's I wear when carrying anything IWB. Basically they make things ALOT more comfortable, providing a layer between the holster and gun and my skin.

The next shot shows a lazy attempt to tuck in the shirt. Extra Magazine Holster DIY KYDEX® sheet 1911 Honestly I thought it was in, but didn't look in the mirror. Anyway you get the picture. It is pretty invisible once you get it tucked into the shirt properly.

IMHO This is not a very expedient carry method. I would rather have an un-tucked shirt, and be able to access the mag quickly. This carry setup takes time to untuck and access the mag. On the up side, once tucked there is NO way that shirt is coming out by accident for better or for worse.

This project was finished up with 4 eyelets that held together the .060 KYDEX® sheet quite well. The great thing about this project was the lack of extra material making things thicker than they had to be, and honestly once it was on my waist, I didn't notice it there, and I wore it for a day. However, come Monday morning, back to work, I went back to the Outside the waistband carry that I am now used to. Luckily my attire allows this.

Good luck, and Email me with your projects!
