Haramaki - Protection from your gear and IWB carry

February 18, 2007

Many of us know the discomfort of wearing a concealed handgun, yet have really had no way of improving the feel beside purchasing a different holster, and often that will not solve the discomfort. The Haramaki greatly improves the comfort of wearing IWB by keeping the handgun away from your skin.

haramaki made out of stretch fleeceTo the right, you can see a grey haramaki worn underneath an IWB 1911 holster. This is our winter model a light weight stretch fleece.

The Haramaki also protects your waist band from other discomforts such as folding knives or pocket guns clipped into the waistband. Even belt buckles dig into your waist when you are sitting, and the extra layer of the Haramaki helps eliminate that discomfort.

Motorcycle Riders are the newest group that is purchasing these to provide extra core insulation for those cool days out on the road, without adding alot of extra girth.

We make two versions, a winter and a summer.

The Winter Haramaki is made of a performance stretch fleece that conforms to your body, and gives you that extra bit of insulation at the waist. It also eliminates that draft that comes blowing through the gap between your shirt and pants in cold weather.

The Summer Haramaki is made of a cotton blend that stretches as well, but is light weight adding little bulk to your clothing. There is now no need to wear an undershirt to tuck inside your waist under the gun, which means that you are cooler with fewer layers on your chest.

What is a Haramki?

Haramaki was a component of the samurai class attire primarily during the Sengoku period (16th century) of Japan. The haramaki were belly protectors, which obviously made them rather important.

Other Benefits:

The Japanese believe the hara (belly) is the center of the human spirit and the source for the mysterious internal energy called "ki." To enhance their ki energy and to maintain their health, the Japanese men and women often wear haramaki (stomach or belly warmer) under their clothing. These stretchable cloth bands are worn around the waist to protect and keep your hara warm.

We have a limited stock at this point, so if you are interested, don't hesitate!
